Samata's activities in the urban sector emanate from concerns about the environment and the resolve to change it for the better.

Activities

Urban Slums: Samata provides a voice for the people and community affected by the Visakhapatnam slums. Attempts are made to assist them to reach solutions with the governing authorities in issues ranging from the legal rights to housing and the provision of basic services.

Drinking Water: Samata’s main focus is on the water demand and supply in Visakhapatnam. We propose to document and highlight the various issues relating to water for the city of Visakhapatnam and provide solutions by exploring new water sources and estimating the needs of the growing population. Once this documentation and research is completed, it is hoped that it will highlight the problem and generate an incentive for progress and change in the water provision system. Similar exercises will follow for other cities and towns.

Public Interest Issues: From time to time, public interest issues arise that are within Samata’s remit of expertise. Samata will attempt to assist the locals by media campaigns or legal recourse or through the compilation of academic reports on the post industrialization of urban areas.
